My story

Susan is a board certified Nurse Practitioner licensed in Ontario, New Brunswick and Michigan. Her experience in nursing ranges from the intensive care units at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto to Detroit Receiving hospital, a Level 1 Trauma centre in downtown Detroit. As a Family Nurse Practitioner her focus has been on women’s health at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit along with providing care to clients of all ages. Susan has a focus in ADHD for many reasons including from personal reasons. After a family member was diagnosed with ADHD, she witnessed first hand
the limitations and downside of ADHD medications. She observed how the side effects and changes in personality served to negate any benefit from the prescribed medication. Today, through research and
education, she has developed a new understanding of ADHD that embraces not only the neurological and behavioral components of the disorder, but also the underlying biological imbalances commonly found with this multifactorial condition. She has learned providing comprehensive individualized care focused on the root causes of the disorder central to the management of ADHD. Treatment is centred on checking for and correcting any identified micronutrient deficiencies, and exploring how lifestyle and gut health impact focus and behavior. When clinically appropriate, she does provide evidence-based clinical management with medication. Ultimately, by combining the doctrines of both functional and conventional medicine, executive function and overall health can be optimized. If you suspect you have ADHD or feel your ADHD treatment
plan is not working for you, she encourage you to make an appointment to explore other avenues that may lead to greater focus and an increased sense of well-being. Another focus Susan has is in hormonal health. During her time at Henry Ford Health, she became acutely aware of the health challenges experienced by women. Despite struggling with the symptoms of menopause and other hormonal imbalances, many found no relief in the treatment options available to them. With the recent acknowledgement of
the flawed Women’s Health Initiative study conducted over 20 years ago, women’s health is now at the forefront of medicine. To fully understand the changes and how they impact both women and men, she has been studying under the world-renowned hormone specialist Dr. Neil Rozier. His teachings have not only inspired her, they have given her hope in how to manage hormonal imbalances in both men and women. If you are at an impasse, and feel like there are no options, don’t hesitate to book in with Susan to look through your options. Together, you can discuss the latest evidence-based approaches to managing your hormone health along with providing an individualized treatment plan that feels right for you.
